A year has passed. Yeah, I can’t believe it either. A whole year has passed and things have gone from hopeful to doubtful. In  this past year an old co-worker and friend of mine passed away. It actually wasn’t too long ago. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. *moment of silence*

On a lighter note, I’m in a NEW home and enjoying the peace and quiet (when I can).  It seems all my attempts to move forward in my career as an artist have come to a standstill. It’s as if something doesn’t want me to leave just yet. Could it be … me?? I’ve always tried my best not to get too “attached” to anything or anyone but it seems some people are harder not to get attached to. Regardless, I’m ready or … at least I feel ready. Things have a way of unraveling themselves, you know and I am patiently waiting for my time to shine.

Out with the old and in with the new! Yes, it’s that time of year. After taking a brief self-reflection on the things going on in my life and I’ve come to certain conclusions. One of my conclusions is that you can’t obtain something new if you’re holding on to something the old. So I’m throwing everything away to embrace the future. Well, almost everything… 😀

PLAN B

The USA is going through some hard times right now. It seems to be hitting everyone in some way, shape, or form. Why would I be any exception? It has always been my dream to become a well-rounded artist and work for a major company producing top quality products. As time goes by I’ve come to realize that this was only a dream. A dream based on facts and ideas accumulated from my youth. Due to today’s current events I will just have to put my dreams on hold and focus on the bigger picture. I haven’t given up on that dream but I just come to realize that life is so much more than that. I wasn’t thinking big enough. Why settle for the moon when the stars are the limit and even that is up for debate. This is where PLAN B comes into play. Stay tuned for more updates as I trailblaze my way to success. Wish me luck! 🙂

FRESHEN UP!

I thought it was time to freshen up on a few things before I could feel comfortable and move forward…but after some thought, I guess comfort is overrated. I’ll continue to move forward regardless, hesitation is my handicap, so I’ll head into the storm head on. Right now I’m still developing my demo reel and demo reel breakdown (DRB) and things are moving. Also I saw an old friend today and though he doesn’t know it he reminded me of  some things I have forgotten since I graduated about passion. Hopefully I can “freshen up” on those things before my next big move toward my goals.

Baby Steps!

Yes, I’m taking baby steps! I’m getting ready for Animation Mentor and from what I hear it is going to be a blast! I will be starting in January (knock-on-wood) of 2011! I’ve always taken a break between schools (it helps keep my sanity) and it is just refreshing being able to put your skills to use during those transitions. Though I am not a natural animator, I have always marveled at the talent and artistry of the process. It seems that I am drawn to it internally like a magnet. Wish me luck.

I’m also trying to put my demo reel (back) together to see if I can get an internship at PIXAR, which would be awesome if I could do both programs at the same time. JUST AWESOME. I have high hopes but only time will tell. The gloves are off and it is time to get down to business.

A new magazine called 3D Hobby Mag is out and it looks promising.  It promises tips and tricks for the casual hobbyist that want to improve their “game”.  I’ll be keeping my eye on this one.  Another thing that I’ve been constantly eying is Corel Draw.  Since I am an artist on a budget, this tool has been my handy dandy fix for everything digital. Recently they created a Premium Suite version which has a lot of cool features and I think this is a great direction they are taking their product. I only hope they proceed with this new direction and develop the product and it could become a very powerful, affordable tool that could rival another famously utilized expensive program that dominates the present market.

About Time…

YES!! It’s about time that I wrote something on this little blog of mine. Alot has happened since I posted about a month ago. Autodesk acquired Illuminate and Pixologic acquired Sculptris. Only time will tell what fruit these actions will yield. On the other hand alot of progress has been made with new releases of Vicon Blade 1.7, Blender 2.5 Beta, Houdini 11, Bryce 7, FXFactory Pro 2.5, MARI, and Zbrush 4.0! “Psoft+” has also been released, which is a NPR plugin for 3ds Max, and it looks very promising. Anyone who likes to achieve that artistic end-product render  (like myself) will surely see its potential and applications.  If you don’t know these programs then you’ve got to check these things out.

After carefully thought and consideration on my vacation I’m confident in the steps I will be making toward my future goals and aspirations. Hopefully we will all hear some good news in the following months!

Part of being in the industry means you have to keep your skills sharp and your eyes open for the “Next Big Thing”. I’ve been keeping my eye on this software for some time now. This year alone it has gained major support and appears to have a very promising future in the entertainment industry as well as the “homebrew” communities. It will be releasing Version 3 soon which includes numerous improvements and upgrades to make your product appear as professional as possible.  This being the case, I’ve been studying how to use this software on my own time and I’m assured it will come in handy in achieving my goals in the coming year.

Yes, that is right. I’m finally going on a well earned vacation very soon. There is sooo much that I have to catch up on! Alot has happened in the past few weeks. E3 revealed alot of new upcoming video game titles that where very impressive and creative as a whole that interested me as a designer and developer but nothing excited me as a gamer…except “Metroid – Other M”. Instead of relaxing and taking a breather (like I should) I’m going to be planning my “work-at-home” schedule for the next year. It won’t be all work and no play on my vacation though. I’m thinking I may just drop by a theatre and check out Toy Story 3. (I’ve been waiting ten years so those kids better stay out of my way!)
